Santa Maria del Fiore at a glance
Santa Maria del Fiore is the cathedral of Florence, on the Piazza del Duomo. The visit covers more than one building: the cathedral itself, Brunelleschi's dome, Giotto's bell tower, the Baptistery, the Opera del Duomo Museum and the ruins of Santa Reparata below the floor. Going into the cathedral is free and needs no ticket or reservation. The other parts are paid, and most of them sit inside one of three passes.
This guide explains which pass fits which plan, how the time slots work, what the climbs involve and what is closed for restoration. Prices are in euro and apply in 2026.

Which pass fits your visit
Adult prices in 2026. The passes differ by the climbs they include.
| Pass | Adult | Dome | Bell tower | Baptistery, museum, Santa Reparata |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brunelleschi | €30 | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Giotto | €20 | – | Yes | Yes |
| Ghiberti | €15 | – | – | Yes |
For most visitors who want the view from the dome, the Brunelleschi pass is the one to book. For most who skip the climbs, the Ghiberti pass is enough. Children aged 7 to 14 pay a reduced price, and children up to 6 enter free. Each pass is valid for 3 calendar days, and each climb needs a booked slot. Details are on the tickets page.
A good first day is simple. Walk around the outside of the cathedral, Baptistery and bell tower on the square, step into the cathedral for free during its tourist hours from Monday to Saturday, and keep the climbs and museums for a slot you have booked.
A few things to know before you go
The points that most often change a plan.
The cathedral is free, the rest is not
Dome, bell tower, Baptistery, museum and Santa Reparata are separate visits. A pass covers them; the cathedral interior does not need one.
Passes and prices →Bring an ID for the dome
Since 1 March 2025 the dome climb requires an ID together with the personalized ticket. The name on the ticket must match.
Dome climb →Maintenance closures in November 2026
The bell tower is closed from 9 to 13 November 2026 and the dome from 16 to 20 November 2026. Restoration also limits the view from the tower.
Opening hours →The Baptistery mosaics are covered
The vault mosaics are not visible during restoration. The bronze doors on show in the museum are the originals.
Baptistery →Beyond the Duomo

Florence Duomo: frequently asked questions
Do I need a ticket for the cathedral?
No. Entering Santa Maria del Fiore is free, with no reservation. A pass is needed for the dome, the bell tower, the Baptistery, the museum and Santa Reparata. Visits for tourists run Monday to Saturday from 10:15 to 15:45 and not on Sundays.
Which pass should I choose?
Choose the Brunelleschi pass (€30) if you want to climb the dome, the Giotto pass (€20) if you want the bell tower but not the dome, and the Ghiberti pass (€15) if you want neither climb. Each includes the Baptistery, the museum and Santa Reparata. The tickets page has the full comparison.
How long is a pass valid?
Regular passes are valid for 3 calendar days, starting on the date you choose. This is not a rolling 72 hours. Each included monument can be visited once, and the reserved slot falls on the first day.
Can I climb both the dome and the bell tower?
Yes, with the Brunelleschi pass, which includes both. The dome needs a booked slot; the bell tower needs no extra slot within the three days of the pass. Both are steep climbs without a lift, so plan the day with rests. See the dome climb page.
What should I wear?
For the cathedral and the Baptistery, cover shoulders and knees and avoid flip-flops. Bring small bags only, because larger bags and backpacks go to the luggage depot.
Is this the official Duomo website?
No. This is an independent travel guide with no link to the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, the Archdiocese or the City of Florence, and it does not sell passes itself.
